Relocation, Relocation, Relocation
November 4, 2020
You may have heard a real estate agent use the age-old phrase “location, location, location” when describing what is important when trying to pick the right place to relocate. Why the hyperbole? Because location is really that important to the process.
Relocation experts often cite the importance of finding the right location near the top of any checklist of things a business needs to accomplish in order to achieve a successful move.
We touched on business relocation in our July 14, 2020 blog “Hybrid Offices.” We’ll go a little deeper into the process and take a look at what relocation consultants consider the recipe for success.
There is a laundry list of things that need to be considered and accomplished before a successful relocation.
By analyzing your current office situation, you can more accurately determine where to go next.
Be proactive. Don’t wait until production is suffering before you decide to pull the trigger. Relocating will take some time. It’s best to get ahead of the situation and start the process early rather than late. This kind of transition will almost certainly take longer than anticipated.
Take a good look at whether it is better to buy or lease new space. This decision will greatly influence what many consultants believe is the most important factor in finding the space that will keep you on the path to success. Location.
Other things relocation experts want you to consider include creating a timeline for making the move. Setting a budget – they can help you identify costs you probably wouldn’t normally consider.
They stress the importance of keeping both your employees and your clients in the loop so everyone knows what is going on and when the move can be expected to be completed.
Most businesses are hesitant to relocate because of the logistical nightmare it can cause and the expense that can be incurred. If your business is expanding, and you are hiring more people that will work on-site, an insufficient work environment will affect productivity.
On the flip side, if you are leaning toward a hybrid office, with employees working remotely, the pains that come with relocating to a smaller space can be offset by the long term reduction in overhead.
Either way, it’s not an easy decision and a relocation consultant can be of enormous value.
The sites we researched for this blog give great tips on what needs to be considered when relocating. Though one thing often overlooked is the necessity for your business to complete a comprehensive network performance assessment before deciding on the right location and beginning the moving process.
If you decide to grapple with this daunting undertaking, we suggest you find a qualified relocation specialist to help you. They will probably save you time and money in the long run. But make sure that, included in their services, is the ability to assess your current network performance. Only then will you have the information necessary to make sure your network needs can be met in your new space.
If you find yourself in this position. Good luck!

November 4, 1952 - For the first time in history, CBS News used a computer to predict the outcome of the 1952 Presidential Election. With a small sample size of 5.5% of voter turnout, the computer predicted a landslide victory for Dwight D. Eisenhower over Adlai Stevenson. Opinion polls indicated that Stevenson would be the clear winner, but the computer was right.
