JitterWorks was recently in a position to assist an MSP with a network problem they were having with a client.

The MSP connected our equipment to the clients network. The first issue we discovered was that the client’s router was configured to load balance the system. We saw both a 1 Gig fiber WAN line and a 1 Gig cable WAN line connected. There was traffic on both.

The 50/50 data split between the fiber line and the cable line was causing issues with a client with heavy utilization – especially voice and video. Because the cable line is half duplex, data traveling over it exhibited four to five times higher latency and jitter than the full duplex fiber line. 

The MSP was able to quickly and easily resolve the issue by reconfiguring the router to only use the cable connection as a failover. This allowed all data to travel solely over the faster, more reliable fiber connection and eliminated the latency and jitter issues.
